Dark Skies Station
The Dark Skies Station at Danby Lodge National Park Centre is a unique venue to host your event in the midst of the National Park, surrounded by rolling hills and moorland.
About Dark Skies Station
The Dark Skies Station is uniquely placed at Danby Lodge. An attraction in itself, nestled within the heart of the North York Moors, along the banks of the River Esk. Centrally located in the National Park Centre grounds, it’s a beautiful and tranquil location to be immersed in nature.
Opened in February 2026, it’s a purpose-built building including a classroom for presentations/ events and dedicated stargazing room with a built-in telescope beneath a retractable roof. Hosts can use the facility in a variety of ways, from seated talks and film screenings to hands-on astronomy activities.
It boasts excellent eco credentials, being one of the most energy-efficient observatories in the UK. Solar panels on the roof provide all the energy needed to operate the observatory, with surplus energy supporting the wider Danby Lodge site.
The classroom itself is a cosy space with a maximum capacity of 30 pax seated. Tables and chairs are provided, including a large display TV and HDMI connection. You will need to bring your own equipment such as laptop, pointer.
Accessibility is a key consideration at Danby Lodge National Park Centre. Toilets including changing places facilities are located nearby. Approx 200 metres away. Tramper hire and wheelchair loan can be arranged ahead of the event.
Perfect for groups who want to escape the corporate feel and be inspired by the outdoors and nature.
